Brooke Ence talking about her upcoming surgery on her vlog, #ITMAKESENCE

[UPDATE: Ence is recovering from surgery]

In case you missed it, Brooke Ence has a severely herniated C6/C7 disk and was unable to compete in the 2017 CrossFit Games season. Since Ence’s withdrawal from the Open, she has been helping out with CrossFit’s social media during the Open announcements.

Ence has also continued to produce her #ITMAKESENCE vlog and in the most recent video (below) she talks about her injury and upcoming surgery. Ence has scheduled surgery for March 31. Following surgery, Ence will have to wear a neck brace for six weeks. On top of that, she will be on Good Morning America, likely to talk about her upcoming movie, at the end of April. Ence’s plan is to be healed enough to be able to take the neck brace off during that appearance.

Ence’s plan is to rehab following surgery and work towards making a comeback for the 2018 CrossFit Games season.

  1. I’m out for the 2017 Open as well (not that I’m a Games athlete) from a C5/C6 reconstruction. All I can say is to listen to the PTs and don’t push it too hard. I had some issues with my recovery at around the 6 week mark because I felt like I could do more than I should have done and I took myself back out for another 10 days or so. Good luck to you.

    • Micky, what did you have done on those levels? I had a disc replacement at c5/c6 Sep 2016 and never felt any better. Had the replacement removed and a fusion done last week. I am not collared at all– makes me wonder what determines whether they collar you or not?? Would you be willing to discuss with me some of your recovery?

  2. I’m scheduled for fusion of c4/5 and c5/6 and possibly c6/c7 if he sees the need while operating. Having it done at the hospital for special surgery in NY. Nervous that I will not regain the movement I will need to do crossfit and the exercises that I love to do …any advice is greatly appreciated.
