Morgan Ramos’ Journey to the CrossFit Games: “I asked the doctors to amputate my leg. I was in so much pain.”

Morgan Ramos was born with a rare genetic disorder called PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome. This has caused chronic pain and multiple complications in her left leg. On top of that, Morgan has undergone multiple surgeries and experimental treatment to no avail as her rare disease is progressive. This has lead Morgan to ask doctors if amputation is in the cards because the pain at times is unbearable.

While she didn’t qualify for an amputation with where her intramuscular vascular malformation is she decided the next best option was to get in the best shape she could and carry on. She had already been dabbling with CrossFit at the time and decided to go ALL IN.

After trying to qualify for WheelWOD for four years, she finally achieved her goal in 2022. She gives big props to WheelWOD for helping her classify her division. While she has decreased muscle power, coordination, and issues with her entire leg she’s been classified in Lower Below the Knee division.

At this year’s Adaptive CrossFit Games Ramos finished 5th in the Below Knee – Lower Impairment division. Check out my interview with Morgan leading up to the Games.
