Days after CrossFit announced that five athletes from the Meridian Regional failed drug tests, Andrea Barbotti and L’udovit Czokoly publicly addressed their sanctions. Both athletes talk about medical issues leading up to the competition in their Instagram posts.
Andrea Barbotti finished 20th in the Meridian Regional and tested positive for clomiphene. “I ended up hiring in June and was worth it, despite the disqualification I’d do it again. I think there are priorities in life and health is at first place. The only 3 people who should be informed about that, already knew it,” Barbotti said on Instagram. He continues, “Despite I had the right stuff for present a TUE and I pay for my negligence, I would like to point out how far is our sport from most doctors in Italy, how much they think it’s all a joke.”
L’udovit Czokoly also addressed the doping violation on Instagram. Czokoly placed 30th at the Meridian Regional. “Injuries are the nightmare of every athlete and I injured my shoulder during the Carpathian Games, just months before Regionals, which is every CrossFitter’s dream. Desperate times bring desperate choices and I did everything not to miss this lifetime opportunity despite of these injuries,” Czokoly said on social media. He continued, “I made a mistake… whether intentionally or not doesn’t matter anymore. Everyone is responsible for his own deeds and I will have more than enough time to think about my choices and the price I had to pay for them.”
