Anthony Davis finished 5th in the world during the 2017 CrossFit Open. Heading into the season, however, Timberwolf CrossFit offered Davis a spot on their affiliate team. With the move, Davis dropped out of college to focus solely on the 2017 CrossFit Games season.
But even after his 5th place finish in the world, Davis elected to compete on Timberwolf CrossFit’s team because he would not have been where he would be had they not given him the opportunity to train with them and focus on the sport.
Davis and Timberwolf CrossFit did make it to the CrossFit Games this season finishing 8th in Madison.

But now that the 2017 season is over, Davis is looking towards 2018. In an Instagram post yesterday, Davis said he will be competing as an individual next year with the goal of making it back to the Games. He will be working with Tyler McBride on programming.
Davis’ decision to go team after an amazing performance in the Open is not unprecedented. In 2016, Jamie Greene won the CrossFit Open, but went team on CrossFit Yas. Greene came back the following year and finished 8th at the Games, the best finish among female rookies.
Can Davis do what Greene did? Stay tuned as the 2018 season is quickly approaching.
