The inaugural USA Functional Fitness (USAFF) National Championship wrapped up Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Dane Smith and Chelsea Nicholas won the men’s and women’s competitions, respectively.

Dane Smith won against a competitive men’s field including Vinny Casey, Alec Smith (Dane’s brother), Ken Battison and William Trujillo. Dane finished in the top 6 in every event and beat out Casey by 10 points. Alec Smith rounded out the top 3 by winning the tie-breaker over Ken Battison.

On the women’s side, only six athletes were in attendance. Chelsea Nicholas dominated the field with three event wins and two more 2nd place finishes. Hollye Henderson took 2nd and Amy Backel finished 3rd.

The competition was the qualification event for the International Functional Fitness Federation’s (iF3) World Championship next month. The top 12 men and women would earn a spot on Team USA. It is unclear at this time how Team USA will fill the 7-12 spots on the team.
