James Newbury took a brief break from training for the CrossFit Games to take a run at the Ninja Warrior Australia course recently. Newbury was one of 50 athletes who competed in one of the preliminary heats on the Australian show.
Newbury was able to finish the course and based on comments by his mother on social media, he finished in the top 18. The top 18 of each heat qualify for the next round in the televised competition.
Two weeks ago Newbury promoted the show on Instagram and asked his fans to watch him compete, saying, “#ninjawarriorau kicks off tomorrow night make sure you tune in!”
But after not being on the first or second episode, Newbury told his fans that he did indeed make it all the way through the obstacle course, “I’ve been getting asked a lot how far I made it through the @ninjawarriorau course. Well, here you go. Made it.”
Newbury has already made his trip out to Madison, Wisconsin, in advance of the 2017 CrossFit Games. The Games start on Thursday, August 3.
