Melissa Doss and her team, Maximus, qualified for the CrossFit Games just three weeks ago out of the Central Regional in Nashville, Tennessee. Maximus took the 5th and final qualifying spot to return to the Games after missing last year.
Doss was back in Nashville this past weekend to celebrate a friend’s birthday. All appeared to be going well until last night when Doss fell from a pegboard and ended up breaking her ankle.
According to Doss it’s a “pretty bad break”, such that she had surgery last night and will have another surgery in a week or two to put plates in her ankle. As you would imagine, Doss will be unable to compete with Maximus at the 2017 CrossFit Games this August.
Doss will be replaced by alternate Celene Steele. Maximus’ roster will take a bit of a hit as Steele finished 66th in the Central East region during the 2017 Open compared to Doss’ 31st place finish.
Here is Doss in Nashville before her season-ending injury.
