The International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) announced that USA Functional Fitness (USAFF) is the national governing body for functional fitness in the United States. The USAFF is the first governing body of the iF3.
The USAFF will be hosting the first USA Functional Fitness National Championships on September 8-10, 2017, at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The results of this competition will determine the 12 men and 12 women who make the first Team USA for functional fitness.
That team will then compete one month later in October at the iF3 World Championships, hosted in California.
James Fitzgerald, chairman of USAFF, said, “I am honored to help develop USAFF from the ground up. With the support of iF3, our mission is to standardize a consistent competition platform, domestically and internationally, for functional fitness.”
He continued, “We will establish a sport deserving of the Olympic Rings and enticing to its athletes and fans around the world.” Based on that comment, it appears that the intent of the iF3 and USAFF is to get functional fitness into the Olympics.
Registration to become a member of USAFF is now open. Members are able to register for the upcoming National Championships.
As for the iF3, former CrossFit Games athlete Gretchen Kittelberger is President. John Mustafa, Chief Ref of the NPGL, is Secretary, and Brenton Stone, Kittelberger’s boyfriend, is Treasurer.
