On Tuesday, the USAW published the Olympic Team qualification procedures. While final IWF Team Rankings are still awaiting changes following the doping allegations, the Women’s Team has qualified three athletes for the Olympics. As announced shortly after this publication, Jenny Arthur was the first athlete awarded a spot on the US Women’s Weightlifting Olympic Team.
As for the Men’s Team, the official IWF Team Rankings are still in flux, but prior to the adjustments, the Men’s Team had not secured any spots for the Olympics. However, changes following potential doping sanctions could change the U.S. Men’s ranking. If not, the Men’s Team can win one slot through the 2016 Continental Qualifying Event in Barranquilla, Columbia held the week of June 4-11, 2016.
