The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) announced yesterday that the Executive Board made the decision to relocate the 2018 Junior World Championships to Uzbekistan. Two years ago, the IWF awarded North Korea (the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) the competition.

In the release yesterday the IWF said, “The final decision of the IWF EB was to award the hosting rights of the 2018 IWF Junior World Championships to Uzbekistan. The Junior World Championships had originally been awarded two years ago to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”

The IWF did not clarify the cause behind the move, however, it is likely due to the recent events that have occurred recently.

The new host, Tashkent, Uzbekistan, was one of the cities in the running two years ago when the IWF initially awarded the competition to North Korea.
