The International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted today to award the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games to Los Angeles and Paris, France. The kicker, though, is that the IOC is leaving it up to the Los Angeles and Paris Olympic committees to work together to figure out which city will host which year.
Sound confusing?
To make it even more complicated, if the cities are unable to come to a decision by September, the IOC said it will make the call on 2024 and will then re-open the 2028 Games to additional bidders.
In February, Budapest withdrew its nomination leaving only Los Angeles and Paris vying for the 2024 Olympic Games. So it appears that the IOC has taken a backseat and will let the cities battle work it out.
