USA Weightlifting (USAW) has put seven weightlifting events in 2019 up to bid and are seeking proposals from interested cities/venues. The Request for Proposal (RFP) process runs through December 18, 2017.
USAW is seeking a minimum of $5,000 to $10,000, depending on the event, for rights to host the venue. The National Junior Championships are seeking $5,000 rights fee while the American Open Series Finals is looking for a minimum $10,000 bid.
While you are likely not involved in a city’s bidding process, the RFPs do give an insight into the 2019 USAW calendar.
Here is the tentative schedule and associated RFPs:
National Junior Championships: Feb. 14-17, 2019
National University & U25 Championships: April 11-14, 2019
National Championships: May 16-19, or May 9-12, 2019
National Youth Championships: June 13-16, 2019
American Open Series II: July 25-28, 2019
American Open Series III: Sept. 12-15, 2019
American Open Finals: Dec. 5-8 or Dec. 12-15, 2019
What is interesting is that the American Open Series I is not listed. The 2018 American Open Series I will be held at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio. The RFP omission points to it returning for 2019.
While bids are due in December 2017, the USAW has until January 31, 2019 to announce the winning bids/locations (but they will likely be released earlier).
