2023 Down Under Championship Set for December 1-3

Mark your calendars…the Down Under Championship will be back in 2023. The Australian off-season CrossFit competition has announced it will be December 1-3 this year. As an official CrossFit licensed event, the Down Under Championship features over 380 athletes from around the world ranging from CrossFit Games veterans to masters and adaptive athletes.

Taking place once again in Wollongong, New South Wales, the WIN Entertainment Centre will host the 2023 competition. New this year, however, is the addition of the 16-19 year-old Futures division, a new category meant to showcase those teen athletes who may have graduated from the Teen division but have yet to crack into the elite individual division.

In 2022 over 10,000 spectators, athletes, staff and volunteers attended the event in person. And like last year, for those unable to make it to Wollongong, the 2023 Down Under Championship will be live-streamed.

“We are excited to be launching the 2023 Down Under Championship again in Wollongong,”
said the Functional Sports Network’s Managing Director, Andreas Gloor. “We have worked
hard to create an event that showcases the best of CrossFit while providing a platform for
athletes to compete at the highest level. We look forward to welcoming athletes and fans from around the world to this incredible event for another year.”

In 2022, Australians Jay Crouch and Madeline Sturt won the Elite Individual divisions, but the men’s team division saw the U.S.-based team of Noah Ohlsen, Chandler Smith and Saxon Panchik take the crown.

The Down Under Championship is becoming one of the premier off-season competitions of the CrossFit season. We’re excited to see who makes the trip ‘down under’ this year. Stay tuned!
