Athletes Electing to Skip French Throwdown for WFP Tour Event 1

The World Fitness Project (WFP) Tour Event 1 and the French Throwdown, an In-Person Qualifying Event for the CrossFit Games, are on the same weekend. Both competitions are May 9-11.

We knew that the WFP Pro Card athletes would be competing at Tour Event 1, but it appears that many of the Challenger athletes who qualified for both are electing to skip the French Throwdown and will instead compete at the WFP Tour Event 1.

A glance at the rosters of the French Throwdown and the WFP Challenger Qualifier show quite a few of the same names.

Athletes like Colin Bosshard, Fabian Beneito, Tola Morakinyo, Andrea Solberg, Ella Wilkinson, Linda Keesman and Oda Lundekvam qualified for the Pro division in the first WFP Tour Event. All have registered for the WFP Tour Event, which likely means all will be skipping the French Throwdown.

Jennifer Muir, Elena Carratala Sanahuja and Noortje Bleeker qualified for and accepted their invite to compete in the Challenger division at the WFP Tour Event 1.

Still Going to French Throwdown

Not all athletes, however, are choosing the WFP Tour Event 1 over the French Throwdown. Calum Clements and Victor Helsinghof both qualified for the Challenger division of the WFP Tour Event 1. However, they have not yet registered for the WFP competition and appear to both be heading to France for the French Throwdown.

Wodland Fest & In-Affiliate Semifinals

The athletes who are skipping the French Throwdown still have an opportunity to qualify for the 2025 CrossFit Games. Colin Bosshard, Andrea Solberg, Ella Wilkinson, Jennifer Muir and Oda Lundekvam are all slated to compete at Wodland Fest later this month.

Wodland Fest is the other European In-Person Qualifying Event for the CrossFit Games season.

And then there is the In-Affiliate Semifinals, an online qualifier where the top 11 men and women in the world will also qualify for the CrossFit Games.

So just because these athletes are choosing the WFP over the French Throwdown it does not mean you won’t see them in Albany this August.

Declined Pro Division

Jamie Simmonds finished 9th in the Challenger Qualifier and was invited to compete in the Pro division in Indianapolis. However, she has declined her invite and her spot has been backfilled by Oda Lundekvam who placed 12th in the online qualifier.

The WFP Tour Event 1 is at the Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Indiana. It is the first in-person competition of the new fitness league.

The French Throwdown is at the Arena Sud de France in Montpelier, France. The top 2 men and top 2 women will qualify for the 2025 CrossFit Games.
