CrossFit HQ has yet to officially crown Cameron Pernich and Kelsey Kiel the overall winners of the 2017 CrossFit Liftoff. However, four days after the submission deadline both are sitting well ahead of 2nd place and will take the title once all of the video reviews are completed.
For Pernich, this is his 2nd Liftoff title in a row. Last year Pernich walked away with the title after putting up a 315-pound snatch and a 405-pound clean and jerk. This year he improved on his snatch with a monster 325-pound lift. His clean and jerk was (only) 385 pounds!
Here are videos of Pernich’s lifts and metcon.
On the women’s side, Kelsey Kiel edged out Anna Rode and Cassidy Duffield for the top spot. Kiel lifted 202 pounds for the snatch and 257 pounds for the clean and jerk. Her clean and jerk is currently 2nd in the world, only behind Eutixia Ananiadi’s 320-pound lift (if it stands).
Check out all three of Kiel’s videos:
For the top overall lifts, as mentioned earlier, Eutixia Ananiadi leads both lifts on the women’s side. Ananiadi put up a 287-pound snatch and 320-pound clean and jerk. However, as we reported earlier this week Ananiadi is serving a 12-year ban by the International Weightlifting Federation for failing a drug test at the 2015 IWF World Championships in Houston, Texas.
For the men, Gor Minasyan lifted 396 pounds (180kg) in the snatch. Aleksanyan Ruben clean and jerked 496 pounds (225kg). Neither athlete submitted a score for the metcon.
Minasyan is from Armenia and won the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the +105kg weight category. Minasyan snatched 210kg at the Olympics.
Aleksanyan is also from Armenia and competed in the +105kg weight category at the 2016 Rio Olympics where he finished 4th. Aleksanyan clean and jerked 245kg (540 pounds) in Rio.
