FitWars is a new competitive format where two athletes face off in a head-to-head workout streamed live on YouTube. But rather than athletes traveling to a central location, each athlete will compete from their own affiliate.
Created by Nick of @WODZombie, FitWars will be similar to the CrossFit Open announcements in that the athletes competing will not know the workout ahead of time. Instead, the workout will be revealed to the athletes on the spot along with those watching the live stream.
The first FitWars match-up will feature Colten Mertens and Scott Tetlow on Sunday, December 18 at 1pm EST (10am PST). The match-up will be streamed live on the HillerFit YouTube channel where Andrew Hiller and Brian Friend will provide live commentary throughout.
Colten Mertens has competed at the CrossFit Games as an individual the past two seasons. In addition, Mertens went to the Games in 2018 on the CrossFit Kilo team.
Scott Tetlow has yet to make it to the CrossFit Games (excluding his 17th place finish in the 2020 virtual Games), but has been to Regionals twice and to the Semifinals the past two seasons. Tetlow most recently qualified for and competed at the Rogue Invitational this past October.
And while Mertens and Tetlow will be fighting for bragging rights, there will be some cold, hard cash on the line as well. Nick told The Barbell Spin he is working with a sponsor on the details with an announcement coming soon.
Nick is also working to build out future FitWars match ups. He has talked with numerous Games athletes from around the world and many have indicated their interest to participate in a future FitWars event. I’ve seen the list and let’s just say there could be some really cool battles in the near future.
So get your popcorn ready. Christmas is coming early for the CrossFit diehard fans who want to see some of the top athletes throw down in a head-to-head battle. December 18 and the first FitWars contest will be here before you know it!
