Fight at the Top of the Leaderboard Intensifies on Day 2 of The Crown

Early this morning the nine athletes made their way to the beach after sunrise for a 4,000-meter sandbag carry. Andrei Petku took the event for the guys in 27:48, followed by Amato Mazzoccas and Rodrigo Candeias. Ema Gálová won the event with a time of 26:20, the best time of all 9 athletes, followed over the line by Voriskova and Maria Jose with Silva disembarking the struggle bus later to close out the event.

Silva was quick to make amends in Event 5 – 200 drag rope double unders – winning the event with a time of 3:09, almost 3 minutes ahead of Jose in second place.
Petku finished in 2:45 to take top points for the boys with Rafael Candeias coming in second ahead of Kocar.

Kocar made it a great Friday, by holding onto the top spot for another day, although Andrei Petku has cut the gap from five to a single point. Amato Mazzoccas and Rafael Candeias are tied on 22 points with Rodrigo Candeias trailing on 11.

There’s a three way tie for first place on the ladies’ leaderboard with Chiara Silva, Veronika Voriskova and Ema Gálová all on 29 points with Maria Jose just behind on 25.

Athletes finished off the day with a GOWOD session led by founder Thibaud Saline, Willy Georges and Jacqueline Dahlstrom, looking at what’s one cards for Saturday, the recovery was pretty integral.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, Event 5 will take the athletes 750m off the coast on a boat and they will then be tasked with swimming back to shore. It’s an event Singleton has been planning for a number of years and an event he’d hoped to see at the Games.

Once they’re dried off, athletes have another mini series test to look forward to with Stone Throw. It does exactly what it says on the tin – who can throw a stone the farthest. Think less Glassman’s softball throw and more Rogue’s Steinstossen Stone Throw, personally I’d have kept the moving of a stone for Easter Sunday morning, but, who am I to judge.

A volume heavy Saturday continues with Event 7:
Midline Mash Up
3 rounds of 3’ on/1’off
30 Pistols
30 GHD
Max Handstand Walk

Closing out the day is a double header, Event 8/9:
Barbell Brawl
1-10
Power Clean and Power Jerk
Directly into 1RM Snatch

The fight for the Crown continues into Sunday with another 3 events planned, plenty still to play for on the island.
