Kate Vibert, in her first meet as a 69kg weightlifter, walked away with three gold medals and two new Junior American Records at the 2018 USAW National Championships. Vibert snatched 103kg on her third and final attempt to break the record held by Mattie Rogers.
Vibert went on to clean and jerk 124kg. Vibert failed her third attempt at 128kg, which would have also been a new Junior American Record. With a 128kg total, Vibert also broke Mattie Rogers’ Junior American record as well.
Both of Rogers’ records that were broken were set back in September 2015.
Vibert now holds the Junior American Record Snatch for both the 63kg and 69kg weight classes. Vibert will be competing on Team USA in July for the IWF Junior World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Vibert’s move and early success in the 69kg weight class now adds some competition to the weight class dominated by Mattie Rogers in recent years. At the Senior Pan Ams held just two weeks ago, Rogers posted a 99kg snatch and 130kg clean and jerk for three silver medals.
