For the first time since 2005, a Team USA female has medaled at the IWF World Championships. On Saturday night, Mattie Rogers took home three bronze medals in the 69kg weight category.

Rogers went 2-for-3 on the snatch finishing with a 104kg lift, just 3kg behind Romela Begaj (ALB). For the clean and jerk, Rogers made 131kg look easy. But on her second attempt, Rogers was unable to stand up 135kg twice.
The misses left Rogers with a 235kg total and in 3rd place overall, behind Begaj who had totaled first and held the tiebreaker. Leidy Yessenia’s (COL) successful first lift at 135kg would secure her 1st place overall title.
Following the medal ceremony Rogers talked about her performance, “I’m really excited to bring home medals, but a little disappointed because looking at the total that won, that was my entry total. I think every athlete thinks I could’ve done better, so I’m happy but not necessarily content.”
Cheryl Haworth was the last American woman to medal at a World Championship event.
