Nayeli Clemente Dies Following Cardiorespiratory Failure at Cholula Games

On Friday, May 2, Nayeli Clemente was competing on a team at the Cholula Games, a CrossFit licensed event. But during Event 1, an event that ended with a ‘Team Pyramid Run, Clemente experienced a medical emergency that resulted in cardiorespiratory failure.

According to a statement released by Clemente’s team, event organizers did not have medical personnel in place to respond quickly. A doctor who was spectating was able to assist before medical personnel got to the scene.

Clemente was taken to the hospital and was in critical condition. Shortly thereafter, those close to Clemente took to social media asking for blood donors.

However, this afternoon Kevin Clemente shared that his sister, Nayeli, had passed away.

Following the medical emergency on Friday, the Cholula Games continued. A live stream of the competition could be watched on YouTube as late as this afternoon. The live stream was taken down around the time that Kevin announced Nayeli’s passing. It is unclear it the two were related.

Since the incident, there were multiple comments on the Cholula Games’ Instagram account with hashtags in support of Nayeli. Comments have since been disabled on most of the competition’s posts.

A GoFundMe was set up by Kevin to help cover medical costs.
