OC3 Black Pull Their Way to Victory at Rogue Invitational

OC3 Black is heading back to the CrossFit Games. Last year’s 3rd place team at the CrossFit Games beat CrossFit Mayhem Freedom and held off CrossFit Invictus Back Bay to win the 2019 Rogue Invitational and earn an invite to Madison, Wisconsin.

With Luke Shafer filling in for Colin Cartee, last year’s team of Joe Piersanti, Taylor Williamson and Andrea Nisler showed they can compete with the top teams in the sport. OC3 Black led the entire competition after winning Event 1 and never looked back with four event wins.

While CrossFit Invictus Back Bay made a charge on Sunday, OC3 Black finished the Sanctional strong by winning the final event, Tug-of-War. In a double-elimination style tournament, OC3 Black lost in the 2nd round to Mayhem Freedom to move into the loser’s bracket.

Back Bay was able to advance to the finals and would have a chance to overtake if OC3 Black failed to win several pulls in the loser’s bracket. OC3 not only did that, but made it to the finals against Back Bay and won two in a row to win the event and the Sanctional and solidify their ticket to the CrossFit Games.

Now the team from Davenport, Iowa, can focus the next two months on training for the CrossFit Games knowing that they competed against some of the top teams in the sport, including Rich Froning’s Mayhem Freedom, and came out on top.
