The Southwest Florida Sharks successfully defended their United Grid League title. Following up on their championship season last year, the SWFL Sharks won the UGL Championship for the second consecutive season.
Yesterday, in the championship match, the SWFL Sharks took on the Ft. Lauderdale Lions in the Grid League Championship. Going into the final race, the teams were tied, 16-16.
The SWFL Sharks would cruise to an easy victory in the Sprint Relay race after the Lions’ Bailey Yarbrough failed to do a 4-point touch following her portion of the race, causing the Lions to fall well behind the Sharks.
The Lions challenged several of the Sharks’ reps on the D-Ball Clean. While the review showed that the “one or two” reps were not good, it was determined that it would not have definitively affected the outcome. Thus, the result stood and the Sharks were crowned the UGL champions.
For those John Young fans, unfortunately, his team, the Houston Bandits, lost to the SWFL Sharks in the Semifinals earlier on Sunday.
