The inaugural Battle of the Camps at GYMREAPERS Wodapalooza SoCal wrapped up on Sunday night. Team Outcast would take home the title, but it would not be without a little controversy.
Heading into the final event, Team Outcast led Training Think Tank by two points and PRVN by three points. Brute had locked up 4th place at this point.
The final workout was for the captains and it was 300 heavy double-unders followed by 75 syncho dumbbell snatch.
The pairs would complete 15 synchro snatches and then move to the next square on the floor. However, following the 30th snatch (2nd square), Team Outcast skipped the 3rd square entirely (watch clip below).
Arielle Loewen and Tudor Magda continued on with their workout alongside PRVN, even though they were technically 15 reps behind.
They finished their 15 reps in the final square and went to the finish line.
The problem was that they had only completed 60 reps. Team Outcast was instructed to go back and do the remaining 15 synchro dumbbell snatches. But after the confusion they fell behind both Brute and Training Think Tank, crossing the line in last place.
As you can see, when the Outcasts finish their 60th rep the judge points to the finish line. In watching it back, it appears that Arielle and Tudor weren’t sure if they had completed all their reps, but moved to the finish line because of the judge’s instruction.
It appeared that Travis Mayer told them they had not completed all their reps.
Because of the confusion, Outcasts crossed the line in last place whereby they would have tied PRVN atop the total points standings. PRVN would have won via the tiebreaker with five event wins.
However, it appears the Outcasts appealed the decision and were given 2nd place in the final event, Rope Randy. This gave them the much needed two points and enough to beat PRVN.
Unfortunately, no explanation has been given behind the decision to give Outcast 2nd place. A request to Wodapalooza last night for the official ruling and why it was made has not been answered.
For their win, each member of the Outcasts will take home $20,000. PRVN team members will each receive $8,000. TTT members will get $4,000 each and finally the Brute athletes will get $2,000 for securing last place.
