Team USA’s Sarah Robles Sweeps Gold!

Two-time Olympian Sarah Robles capped off a successful week for Team USA at the 2017 IWF World Championships. Robles, who won bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, did even better on the World Championship platform in Anaheim, California, on Tuesday.

Robles walked away with three gold medals in the women’s +90kg weight category during a perfect 6-for-6 session. Robles finished with a 126kg snatch and 158kg clean and jerk.

On the snatch, Robles won gold after transgender athlete Laurel Hubbard missed a 127kg snatch. During the clean and jerks, Robles had secured another gold medal after Shaimaa Haridy missed an attempt at 157kg. Robles would later hit 158kg after three gold medals were already secured.

The last time an American woman won a gold at the World Championships was when Robin (Byrd) Goad won in 1994.
