The inaugural TYR Wodapalooza SoCal event is coming in with a bang! Days after announcing a new team format for the elite division, TYR Wodapalooza is putting up a giant $250,000 prize purse.Â
All athletes participating in the TYR Cup will take part in the prize purse. The 2024 TYR Cup champions will walk away with $160,000. Each of the eight winning team members will earn $20,000 for their efforts. The losing team will get $40,000 to split amongst their team, or $5,000 per athlete.
On top of that, the individual with the “greatest singular positive impact towards their team’s success” will be named MVP and will receive an additional $10,000.
The remaining $40,000 prize purse will be shared across the remaining division champions.
TYR Cup
For those unfamiliar with the new TYR Cup format at the TYR WZA SoCal, it is going to feature 16 of the best athletes from around the world in a North America vs the World competition similar to the CrossFit Invitational. Each team will have four men and four women.
Each of the six workouts will have a different format…
1. INDIVIDUAL – All 16 athletes compete independently, with the sum of each athlete’s scores equaling their team’s score.
2. ALL HANDS – Teams compete as a single collective, with all 8 working together as one.
3. SPOTLIGHT – Nominate one male & female based on their individual expertise featuring weightlifting, gymnastics & a mono-structural test.
4. MIAMI TEAM – Select three athletes per gender to tackle a TYR WZA Miami team of 3 workout.
5. CFG TEAM – Two men & two women join forces in a traditional team format to represent their squad.
6. CAPTAINS – Each team will have an M & F captain, who will work together to earn their team the W.
As for the team captains, they will be selected at a later date by the fans. Stay tuned so you don’t miss your opportunity to vote.
