Winning the 2018 CrossFit Games takes an unimaginable amount of work and dedication. It also comes with a $300,000 check on Sunday evening. After that the top 20 are guaranteed a payout while the bottom half of the field only win prize money if they place in the top 3 in an event.
In total, 25 men and 25 women received prize money at the 2018 CrossFit Games. That means five athletes outside the top 20 did place in the top 3 for at least one event. And for 15 men and 15 women, no prize money was awarded.
Interestingly, Scott Panchik finished 11th overall yet did not finish in the top 3 in any event. His best finish was 4th on the CrossFit Total and the Clean & Jerk Speed Ladder. On the women’s side, eight women in the top 20 never finished 3rd or better in a single event (Cassidy Lance-McWherter, Jamie Greene, Tennil Beuerlein, Alessandra Pichelli, Bethany Shadburne, Mekenzie Riley, Carol-Ann Reason-Thibault and Maddie Sturt).
Also, Tia-Clair Toomey earned the most prize money of any athlete, male or female, at the CrossFit Games. Toomey’s $313,000 payout was $1,000 more than Mat Fraser’s total winnings.
