If you look at the leaderboard, you will see Amanda Barnhart’s name in 7th place. Finishing in the top 10 is an impressive feat for the two-time Games veteran, but it is even more impressive given that Barnhart was in extreme pain since Friday.
During Event 3, Ruck, on Friday morning, Barnhart severely rolled her left ankle. She would finish the event in 15th place.
“The rest of the weekend was a constant struggle of how can [sic] I manage each workout around my ankle,” commented Barnhart. “I had moments of tears, I had moments of anger, and honestly I had moments where I just wanted to give up because I was so sick of “dealing with it.”
Barnhart would not quit though. She came back to North Park and won the Sprint Couplet Event. Later that afternoon, Barnhart took on Mary where she finished 16 rounds + 6 reps, including 161 pistols…half of which were on a severely injured ankle. Barnhart finished 25th.
The next day Barnhart managed to finish 15th on the Sprint Course that featured multiple sharp cuts and then later that afternoon she battled Tia-Clair Toomey in the Clean event. Barnhart finished with a 260-pound squat clean.

From there, she remained competitive throughout Sunday where she took 2nd in Ringer 2 and 6th on The Standard.
Dealing with adversity throughout the weekend, Barnhart said, “This injury forced me to be stronger mentally and physically than I ever thought I could be this weekend. It taught me to continue trusting the process every single day and It gave me the confidence that even on a bad ankle and sometimes less than ideal circumstances, I conquered so many “wins” this weekend and proved that hard work truly does pay off.”
