We don’t have much information about the Games yet (other than Castro has begun working with members of the Demo Team), but we have seen the athlete check-in schedule. We also have heard from athletes that there might be a cut to the field after Friday’s events.
The Games are officially scheduled for Thursday, August 1 through Sunday, August 4. On Monday, July 29, the National Champions will be checking in all day, from 8am to 6pm. On Tuesday, the Top 20 Open qualifiers and Sanctional invitees will be checking in from 8am to 1pm.
CrossFit HQ is also allowing early registration for a limited number of athletes. Those athletes will be able to check in Sunday, July 28. During check-in, for both early registration and during Monday/Tuesday, athletes will a uniform, credentials and complimentary Festival passes.
This leaves Wednesday for the teens/masters registration. It also means that with all the individual athletes registered by Tuesday that there is an outside possibility that we could see an event the day before the official start of the Games.
But what is more interesting is what could happen after Friday!
We have heard that athletes are being told CrossFit will be re-outfitting the individuals following Friday’s events. To us, this implies that the field will likely be narrowed halfway through the competition.
We have no idea how many athletes would make this cut. But with over 140 men and women competing, we would expect more than half the field will have their Games experience cut short.
