The truck driver strike in Brazil is wreaking havoc on the country. But inside the Parque OlĂmpico do Rio de Janeiro, the top CrossFit athletes are fighting for the one qualifying spot from each division.
On Saturday, Brenda Castro made her move. Sitting in 6th place entering the day, Castro recorded a 5th and 10th place finish on events 3 and 4, respectively. While her performances were not dominating, those ahead of her faltered leaving the door open for the most well-known CrossFit athlete in Mexico.
Castro holds an 8-point lead over Cecilia Ramirez Villamil in 2nd place and there are only 24 points separating 8th from 1st place. The one qualifying spot to the Games will be decided by the final event.
Standings after Day 2:
1) Brenda Castro (276)
2) Cecilia Ramirez Villamil (268)
3) Melina Rodriguez (264)
4) Vivian Aiello Bomfim (264)
5) Jimena Delamer (256)
In the men’s competition, Pablo Chalfun holds a 2-point advantage over Luis Oscar Mora. If Mora wins, he will be the first athlete who competed at the CrossFit Games in the Teen division.
