Organizers of Copa Sur went live on YouTube this afternoon to share news about next year’s competition. The 2026 Copa Sur will be held May 1-3 in São José, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
During the announcement they said it was not officially a Semifinal competition as the date was being announced, but later on one of the co-hosts did say, “It’s the first time, the first time, the Semifinal is coming to the south.”
São José, Santa Catarina, is located near the southern border of Brazil.
Copa Sur is now the third Semifinal (unofficially) to announce its date for the 2026 CrossFit Games season. The 2026 French Throwdown will be May 15-17 while the 2026 NorCal Classic will be May 29-31.
I say “unofficial” because CrossFit has not formally announced its roster of Semifinal competitions for the 2026 season. However, all three are right in the middle of the window for Semifinals next year. And given that all three were Semifinals this past season, all are almost certainly going to be qualifying events for the CrossFit Games again this year.
But while these will (likely) be Semifinals in 2026, one thing we don’t know is how many qualifying spots will be available per Semifinal. Last year all three of these competitions sent two men and two women to the 2025 CrossFit Games.
However, it does appear that fewer athletes will qualify via online Semifinals in 2026, could we see more spots available for some or all of the in-person Semifinals? Or will we see more Semifinal competitions than last year?
