CrossFit Adds NorCal Classic as In-Person Qualifying Event

CrossFit had announced nine In-Person Qualifying Events for the 2025 CrossFit Games season. But it looks like that number is growing to 10. On the Northern California Classic (aka NorCal Classic) website, the date of the competition has moved to June and that the top 2 athletes in the Elite division will “earn a spot to compete at the CrossFit Games.”

The 2025 NorCal Classic was originally scheduled for September 5-7, but with the change as an In-Person Qualifying Event, the 2025 NorCal Classic will now be June 6-8.

The timing of the announcement comes just in time as the online qualifier for the NorCal Classic begins tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8.

However, with the change it appears they have extended on the online qualifier, too. Originally it was supposed to run through January 19, but now on the NCC website and Competition Corner are showing that it has been extended to the end of January.

The NCC will host 50 elite men and women with 35 qualifying via the online qualifier. The other 15 will be at-large spots “reserved for athletes who finish in the top 1% of the CrossFit Open.”

It is unclear how those spots will be handed out.

The NorCal Classic was created by former CrossFit Games athletes Blair Morrison and Ben Alderman. Last year’s event brought 900 athletes to Folsom Lake in Granite Bay, California. Colten Mertens and Elizabeth Wishart won the men’s and women’s elite division, respectively.

In December, it was announced that The Sevan Podcast would broadcast the 2025 NorCal Classic.
