CrossFit has just posted a new job opening for the role of ‘Head of Sport Safety’. The job posting is part of CrossFit’s list of action items and next steps following the third-party investigation into Lazar Đukić’s death at the 2024 CrossFit Games.
The job description, as posted on Lever, is as follows:
CrossFit seeks a highly skilled and experienced Head of Sport Safety to join our SPORT team. This role will oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of safety protocols for the CrossFit Sport team throughout the year. You will be primarily responsible for ensuring the highest safety standards across CrossFit competitions and event-related activities, with a special focus on the CrossFit Games. This position will be responsible for CrossFit’s risk mitigation strategy and execution supporting the Sport season. This role will work closely with a broad range of stakeholders—including athletes, staff, volunteers, and medical teams—to create seamless and safe event experiences. This role will report jointly into GM of Sport Dave Castro and CEO Don Faul.
Responsibilities include:
● Event Execution: Oversee and manage all safety aspects “between the ropes” for the CrossFit Games, including coordination of judges, safety personnel, medical staff, and volunteers to ensure smooth event operations. Create Emergency Action and Communication Plans and a robust pre-event rehearsal strategy.
● Safety Communication: Serve as the primary communicator for safety-related information during the CrossFit season, ensuring clarity and consistency across all teams and events.
● Safety Strategy & Protocols: Develop and implement comprehensive safety strategies and protocols for CrossFit-run events, setting industry-leading standards for risk mitigation.
● Safety Education & Best Practices: Publish and disseminate safety guidelines, best practices, and policies to inform CrossFit-licensed events and other external competitions.
● Continuous Improvement: Monitor the effectiveness of safety measures and continuously improve safety standards based on event feedback, risk assessments, and emerging best practices.
● Safety Liaison: Serve as the primary liaison between CrossFit HQ and our independent Safety Advisory Board and with the CrossFit Athlete Council on all matters related to safety.
As such, CrossFit is looking for an individual with over 10 years of experience in a safety management role within sports or fitness along with operational experience and leadership.
