CrossFit Revises Grip Policy in Rulebook Following Feedback from the CAC

CrossFit has revised its policy related to hand protection and grips in the 2025 CrossFit Games rulebook. After receiving feedback from the CrossFit Athlete Council (CAC), the decision was made to reverse the ban on rubber-based grips.

Section 7.03 of the CrossFit Games rulebook has now been modified to reflect the following:

The previous language stated, “…but these resources may not be used in a manner that provides additional grip assistance.” You can see the original language in the rulebook below:

There was a lot of discussion around the change to the grip policy when the 2025 CrossFit Games rulebook was published. Vic Pellegrino, owner of Victory Grips, took to Instagram to clarify the new rule at the time.

Based on the previous language in the rulebook, rubber-based grips were banned from competition. However, with the rule change these grips are once again permitted in all stages of the CrossFit Games season.
