Two more athletes have been sanctioned by CrossFit, Inc. for violating the anti-doping policy. Elly Kabboord and Henrik Ingi Oskarsson both received four-year suspensions from CrossFit competitions.
Kabboord’s potential suspension was already known as she and Rich Froning brought it to light on the Froning & Friends podcast. Kabboord denies taking a banned substance and has theorized it came from tainted meat or supplements. Kabboord tested positive for Clenbuterol.
After being notified by CrossFit of the failed drug test, Kabboord hired a lawyer and began testing supplements and looking into the places and products she consumed while in Iceland for the Reykjavik CrossFit Championship. Following Kabboord’s appeal, CrossFit states it consulted with the Icelandic Anti-Doping Organization and Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority before denying her appeal.
CrossFit did, however, state that it has the right to reopen the case following the conclusion of Kabboord’s supplement testing.
As for Oskarsson, this is the second time he has been suspended for failing a drug test. Oskarsson, who tested positive for ostarine and RAD-140, both are anabolic agents. Oskarsson finished 2nd at the Reykjavik CrossFit Championship behind already-qualified Bjorgvin Gudmundsson, thereby earning an invite to the CrossFit Games. The suspension means that the Games invite will go to Will Moorad (who subsequently earned an invite at the Brazil CrossFit Championship).
Oskarsson was suspended from CrossFit competitions in 2016 after refusing to take a drug test at the Nike Iceland Throwdown. The Icelandic CrossFit Association, in combination with CrossFit, Inc., sanctioned Oskarsson with a two-year suspension.
Both athletes’ suspensions run through May 4, 2023.
So far this year, six athletes have been suspended for failed drug tests.
