Just a few years ago, Dani Speegle was brand new to CrossFit. However, there was something about her that stood out. We interviewed Speegle back in January 2016 about the upcoming CrossFit Open and her goals as she ramped up competing in a new sport.
In 2016 she withdrew after 16.3. The next year she qualified for Regionals, but elected to go the team route. In 2018 Speegle went to regionals as an individual where she would finish 8th.
Now fast forward to the “start” of the 2019 CrossFit Games season and the online qualifiers. The Dubai CrossFit Championship and Wodapalooza Fitness Festival online qualifiers are in their final week. And Speegle is competing in both!
Speegle is in 1st place on the Wodapalooza leaderboard and is in 2nd place in the DCC standings. Barring a big shake-up, Speegle will be invited to compete in the first two sanctioned competitions in an attempt to earn an invite to the 2019 CrossFit Games. A 2nd place finish in the DCC qualifier would earn her $6,000 as well.
Speegle, however, is not the only athlete attempting both qualifiers at the same time. Samuel Cournoyer is in 1st at Wodpalooza and 32nd on the DCC qualifier.
The final workouts of the DCC qualifier are due Sunday, October 21 at 8am Eastern time. The Wodapalooza qualifier wraps up a day later on Monday, October 22 at 8pm Eastern.
