Elly Kaboord of CrossFit Mayhem Independence Fails Drug Test

Elly Kabboord or CrossFit Mayhem Independence is the latest athlete to fail a drug test. While in Iceland at the Reykjavik CrossFit Championship, Kaboord tested positive for clenbuterol, a banned substance. The news comes after CrossFit announced two failed tests earlier this week.

Kabboord was notified of the violation 3-4 weeks following the competition. The competition was May 3-5 so she likely found out near the end of May.

At this time, CrossFit has yet to officially sanction Kabboord. However, Kabboord jumped on Rich Froning’s podcast, Froning & Friends, to share what happened before any news is released.

According to Kabboord, she had 1 billionth of a gram of clenbuterol in her sample. She said that research indicates that amount found in a sample is generally a result of a tainted supplement or meat.

Kabboord has hired a lawyer to help her navigate this situation with CrossFit, Inc. Kabboord and her lawyer requested two weeks to conduct research into how she may have gotten clenbuterol into her system. CrossFit, however, denied that request.

So right now Kabboord has sent in her supplements to be tested, but it appears that it may not be in time before CrossFit closes its investigation.

Kabboord competed on CrossFit Mayhem Freedom’s team that won the CrossFit Games in 2015 and 2016 and was also on the runner-up team in 2017. Last year, Kabboord was on CrossFit Mayhem Independence at the Games. The team finished 4th overall.

This year Kabboord was still on Mayhem Independence. She and the team were planning to compete at the final Sanctional of the year, the CrossFit French Throwdown. It is unclear who will replace Kabboord, if needed, at this time.
