Emma Cary Will Not Compete in 2024 CrossFit Games Season

Hours before the official start of the 2024 CrossFit Games season, Emma Cary has announced that she will not be competing this season. Cary, via an Instagram post, shared that she is “taking the season off to place my affections on Jesus Christ.”

Cary was entering the 2024 CrossFit Games season on a high-note after winning the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza last month following her 8th place finish at last year’s CrossFit Games.

But now, as the 24.1 CrossFit Open workout announcement is just hours away, another young female athlete has elected to walk away from the sport over the past year. Mal O’Brien announced last week that she would not be competing again this season following her departure from the sport in the middle of the 2023 season.

Cary did acknowledge in her statement that she has not closed the door on competing in the future. “This isn’t the end of competitive CrossFit for me, it’s the beginning of truly following Christ and responding to His call of ‘Follow Me’.”
