Event 1 is a 10-Lap Crit Race

A criterium, or crit for short, is a bike race consisting of multiple laps on a closed loop circuit. Races are generally shorter than normal road bike races and are measured in terms of laps or total time.

In the case of the 2018 CrossFit Games, Event 1, also called “Crit”, is a 10-lap race. Each lap is approximately 1,200 meters, or 3/4 of a mile. The total distance will be around 7.5 miles.

On Wednesday morning all 40 men will be in one heat followed by all 40 women in the next heat. With 40 athletes on road bikes in a narrow space going at high speeds it could mean some bad accidents take place.

Last year on Cyclocross, Chelsey Hughes withdrew after a bad accident on the course. Will we see more athletes withdraw following a pile up on the first event of the Games?
