We all know the cost to qualify and then travel to Madison, Wisconsin, to compete at the CrossFit Games is expensive, especially for international athletes making the journey to the United States. To help Games-bound athletes from the Africa region this year, Fit Like Africa (FLA) has set up a program to provide financial support to those athletes.
The FLA Athletes Incubator has been designed to raise money during the 2023 CrossFit Open that will then be shared with African athletes headed to the CrossFit Games this year. To raise funds, athletes can sign up and register for the virtual competition hosted on Competition Corner. The cost is $5 to enter.
For those unaware, while the cost for most athletes to enter the CrossFit Open is $20. However, it is only $15 to register in the African region. So FLA is asking athletes to sign up for the Open and the FLA Athletes Incubator to help support the top athletes in the region.
All profits from the $5 registration fee will be shared among the qualified African athletes headed to the CrossFit Games in August.
While most who sign up for the FLA Athletes Incubator will be from Africa, there does not appear to be any regional limitations so if you do live somewhere else and would like to support the African region athletes, I would encourage you to consider registering.
When speaking with Alex, he told The Barbell Spin that all of the money raised will be split with all athletes who qualify out of Africa, from the elite individuals, the team and any age group or adaptive athletes. While he understands that Africa will likely only send one male, one female and one team, his hope is that the FLA Athletes Incubator will create awareness and future growth of functional fitness within the continent.
