Henrique Moreira is on the Templo SA CrossFit team that finished first at Copa Sur, the host of the South America Semifinal. With the victory, Moreira and his Templo SA CrossFit teammates were invited to compete at the 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games. However, Moreira might not be able to make the trip from Brazil to the United States because of visa issues.
According to Moreira, the United States consulate has denied his visa application three times. In a post on Instagram, Moreira says that the consulate recognizes CrossFit as an amateur spot and, because of this, would not accept the form that CrossFit would need to fill out on the team’s behalf.
He said he is not going to give up and is continuing to work to see if this can be resolved in time for him to compete with his teammates in Madison. If Moreira is unable to get his visa approved, it appears that the team’s alternate, Nickolas Barbosa, would be able to fill in for him. Templo SA CrossFit’s other teammates are Luiz Outor, Tata Rebane and Caroline Ferreira.
This is not the first time Moreira has qualified for the CrossFit Games, but has not been able to compete. Back in 2020, he finished 2nd in the Boys 16-17 age group quarterfinal only to have the competition cancelled because of COVID.
In 2021, his team finished 15th at the Brazil CrossFit Championship Semifinal. Then in 2022, he finished 9th as an individual at the CrossFit Copa Sur Semifinal and now this year he and his team earned a trip to the Games after winning the team competition.
It does appear that CrossFit has reached out to Henrique but as of a few days ago his visa application issue has not yet been resolved.
