The 2023 CrossFit Open is going to start off with a bang! The live 23.1 Open announcement will be held in Madrid, Spain at the Caja Mágica Stadium 3 on February 16. Following the workout reveal, four CrossFit Games veterans and a community heat of athletes from nearby affiliates will take on the workout.
Laura Horvath, Gabriela Migala, Lazar Djukic and Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson will compete head-to-head following the 23.1 workout reveal. After that, affiliate members from Full CrossFit, Wezone CrossFit and CrossFit Coraje will do the workout as well.
Horvath finished 3rd at the 2022 CrossFit Games while Migala finished 8th overall. The two were the highest ranked European female athletes at the Games. Djukic took 8th at the Games followed by Gudmundsson in 9th. And just like the women, Djukic and Gudmundsson were the top 2 men’s finishers from Europe.
The Caja Mágica has hosted numerous CrossFit events in the past. It hosted the CrossFit Invitational in 2015 and the Meridian Regionals in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Most recently it hosted the 2022 Madrid Championship this past September.
For those wanting to attend in person, tickets will go on sale Friday, January 27.
