Invictus Boston was one of the favorites heading into the CrossFit French Throwdown. With team experience at the Games, Tola Morakinyo, Kelsey Kiel, Craig Kenney and Meg Reardon teamed up for one last shot to qualify for the CrossFit Games as a team. But to make it to the Games, they would have to beat teams like CrossFit Mayhem Independence, Team ROMWOD Meat Squad and NOVA3 Misfits.
Heading into the final day of competition it looked to be a two-team battle between CrossFit Invictus and CrossFit Mayhem Freedom. With just two points between 1st and 2nd place, but four scored events remaining Sunday would be do or die.
CrossFit Mayhem Freedom would make the first punch on Event 7 by taking 2nd place while Invictus Boston struggled, finishing 7th. That 40-point swing would be short-lived, however, as Invictus Boston would show its collective strength on Event 8.
Events 8a and 8b were male/female pair snatch ladders. With one of the strongest rosters in all of CrossFit, both pairs won their events to cash in 200 points. CrossFit Mayhem’s men would take 13th while the women finished in 6th for a combined 76 points.
And while Event 9 had a revised scoring table with just five teams advancing to the final event, Invictus Boston secured the top spot entering the event. That did not stop them from showing their strength with the heavy dumbbells as they cruised to their 3rd event victory of the day.
CrossFit Mayhem Independence would take 6th and were passed on the overall leaderboard by Team ROMWOD Meat Squat (Dex Hopkins, Christian Harris, Kelly Baker and Brooke Haas).
After all the dust settled, Invictus Boston ran away with the team competition to earn an invite to the 2019 CrossFit Games. The win, however, means that Meg Reardon will have to choose between going to the Games as an individual or competing on Invictus Boston’s team. Reardon won the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge in April to qualify as an individual.
Following the win today, Rory McKernan asked Reardon what she planned on doing. Check out her response in the video below…

Stay tuned as we wait for Readon’s decision.
Final Standings
1. Invictus Boston (892)
2. Team ROMWOD Meat Squat (752)
3. CrossFit Mayhem Independence (746)
4. NOVA3 Misfits (690)
5. Team NRSC (562)
