When the Quarterfinals leaderboard populated last Monday, Jay Crouch sat in first place worldwide. However, that changed on Wednesday when his Workout 1 score was adjusted, bumping him out of 1st place and down to 38th.
Crouch received a one minute penalty on Workout 1, the one with overhead squats, shuttle runs and burpees. Instead of a time of 5:46, good for 2nd in the workout, his score is 6:46, good for 284th.

CrossFit has not disclosed the reason for the penalty since Crouch was moved down the leaderboard. However, it has been confirmed that the 60-second penalty was for not doing all 20 overhead squats. Crouch only did 19 of the 20 overhead squats and was assessed a 60-second penalty.
Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr also weighed in on the situation. Toomey-Orr commented, “This is crazy! A 1min penalty for missing 1 rep. Ridiculous!”

It appears that Crouch is the only athlete to have received a penalty on the Quarterfinals leaderboard as no one else in the top 5 has had their score adjusted.
With the penalty, Crouch will not receive the $5,000 first place prize for winning Quarterfinals. Luckily, Crouch will still be competing at Torian Pro next month and can compete in the online Semifinals, if needed.
