No one had their eyes on John-Paul Hethcock when the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge (MACC) kicked off Friday night. But after storming to the top of the leaderboard Sunday afternoon, CrossFit Games fans will need to take note. Hethcock won the MACC, holding off Games veterans like Will Moorad, Samuel Kwant, Paul Castillo and Marquan Jones.
Hethcock was not even supposed to compete this weekend, but after a late withdrawal he was notified he had the opportunity to compete in the first Sanctional following the CrossFit Open. Hethcock did not win an event all weekend until the final event, but it was just in time. He held off Moorad on the final event as both battled for the top of the podium and an invite to the Games.
Moorad finished 3rd on the final event and overall, just 25 points shy of Hethcock. Kwant, who already qualified for the Games via the Open, finished in 2nd place.
Final Standings
1) John-Paul Hethcock (693 pts)
2) Samuel Kwant (676)
3) Will Moorad (668)
