Live Open Announcements Will Look Different This Year

With changes to the 2019 CrossFit Games season and no mention of live announcements for the Open workouts, many were wondering if the Open would no longer feature Dave Castro announcing the workouts before a pair of Games athletes squared off. Good news! The live announcements will continue, but things will look a lot different this year.

CrossFit HQ has handed off the announcements to CrossFit affiliates and Sanctional organizers rather than manage them internally. The look and feel of each week’s announcement will likely vary as the production quality will return to more of a raw live stream. On top of that, while Dave Castro is still programming the Open he will likely not be involved with the Open announcements this year.

Open workout 19.1 will feature simultaneous announcements from the U.K., France and Brazil. The next four weeks will be released from undisclosed (for now) locations around the world.

The live announcements will still be live streamed like previous years on Games.CrossFit.com and CrossFit’s various social media pages.

The stakes are much higher this year in the Open as well. Without regionals, the top finished from each country (man and woman) will qualify to compete at the 2019 CrossFit Games.
