Mayhem Classic Roster to be Based on Historical Performance

The Mayhem Classic is the first In-Person Qualifying Event of the 2025 CrossFit Games season. Hosted by Rich Froning and CrossFit Mayhem, the Mayhem Classic will be a two-day competition from April 5-6 in Cookeville, Tennessee. Outside of the date and location, all we have known is that the IPQE will be invite-only and feature 20 men and 20 women.

But on this morning’s Rich Froning Podcast (#044), Froning shared some new details on how the 20-athlete roster would be selected.

“We’re going to do a similar thing to what Rogue does to what the CrossFit worldwide ranking used to be that they put out and got rid of,” shared Froning. He added, “We have to figure out what events will go into that algorithm…but basically it’ll be that. So the top 20 in the world in CrossFit.”

Froning followed up by saying that the roster should be known “within weeks”.

Invites will go to the top athletes regardless of whether they will be competing in the CrossFit Open and thus eligible to advance to the CrossFit Games. Per the 2025 CrossFit Games rulebook, an athlete must finish in the top 1% of the CrossFit Open to be eligible to earn an invite via one of the In-Person Qualifying Events.

So there is a chance that someone competing could win, but not earn one of the two qualifying spots to the CrossFit Games. In that case, the next athlete in line would receive the invite.

We should be getting more information in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
