Multi-Extremity Leaderboard Changed After Errors Were Discovered

On Monday, we published an article sharing that CrossFit had finalized the adaptive athletes who would be advancing to the CrossFit Games and the podium finishers for the other divisions. That news was based on an announcement made by CrossFit three days earlier.

But hours after our publication, the men’s and women’s leaderboard in the Multi-Extremity division changed. One male and one female athlete jumped into the top 5 late Monday night.

According to CrossFit, athletes notified CrossFit on Friday after the original announcement stating that the ‘finalized’ leaderboard contained errors. After investigating the allegations, CrossFit found that there were two mistakes made within the Multi-Extremity division.

One athlete who received a “0 score” appealed the decision, but CrossFit never actually conducted the appeals process. After being notified that the appeal never occurred, CrossFit did evaluate the appeal and reinstated the athlete’s score.

The other athlete’s eligibility was “recorded incorrectly”. Again, after being contacted CrossFit looked into the situation and reinstated the scores that were originally adjusted.

After the adjustments, Jonathan Garson and Amea Reyna are now in the top 5 of the Multi-Extremity division and will advance to the 2023 CrossFit Games. That means, however, Austin Roth and Reagan Moser are now in 6th place and will not compete at the CrossFit Games as originally reported.

As for the cause of the errors, CrossFit said they were due to a “combination of misrouted work and human error during these manual processes [that] led to inaccuracies on the advancing athletes.”

And while the top 5 who qualify for the Games is ‘final’, CrossFit, as it did in its original announcement, said the leaderboard outside the top 5 will shift again when all ineligible athletes are removed.
