Patricia Gonçalves is the first athlete of 2025 to fail a drug test. Gonçalves, who competed and took 5th overall at Copa Sur last month, submitted a sample that contained multiple banned substances.
The test was administered on Sunday, April 20, following the final event of Copa Sur.

Gonçalves’ sample contained oxandrolone and its metabolites epioxandrolone, 17ß-Hydroxymethyl-17-a-methyl-18-nor-2-oxa-5-a-androst-13-en-3-one and canrenone.
This was the first year Gonçalves competed in the CrossFit Open.
Gonçalves did not appeal and has received a four-year sanction that runs from April 20, 2025 through April 25, 2029.
Shortly after the announcement, Gonçalves made the following post on Instagram. The (translated) caption reads, “Athlete will fall, will doubt, will want to stop. But he will get up and move on.”
