The Rebel Renegades is one of the nine In-Person Qualifying Events for the 2025 CrossFit Games season. After hosting the Africa Semifinals the past two seasons, the organizers have announced that they will limit the field for this year’s competition.
Only athletes with a passport from an African country or the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or train and live in those regions will be able to register and compete for a qualifying spot to the 2025 CrossFit Games.
One man and one woman will earn an invite to the Games.
In 2024, Ruan Potgieter and Gemma Rader qualified for their first appearance at the CrossFit Games. With the “ring fencing”, both athletes are favorites to make a return trip. However, there are several high-level athletes living and working in UAE who could impact the leaderboard.
Athletes like Bruno Marins, Kalyan Souza and Evie Hollis live and work in Dubai, UAE. Marins qualified for the 2024 CrossFit Games out of South America. Hollis competed in the Asia region last year where she finished 6th at the Far East Throwdown.
In addition to the elite individual division, the Rebel Renegade Games will also host a 4-person affiliate team competition. Just like the individuals, team members must be from the African or UAE region. Additionally, teams must be from an affiliate…no super teams.
The 2025 Rebel Renegade Games is May 29 through June 1 at Emerald Casino in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa. An online qualifier will take place between April 3-7 where athletes will need to complete six workouts. The top 20 men and top 20 women will earn a spot to compete at the In-Person Qualifying Event.
More details will be announced in January.
