Sabrina Caron is going to make her rookie debut at the 2019 CrossFit Games. Caron, a French native, held off Mikaela Norman on the final event to secure her invite to the Games via the CrossFit French Throwdown.
Caron entered Event 9 with a 30-point advantage over Norman, but with a special scoring table for the event, the final spot to the CrossFit Games was still up for grabs. The scoring table awarded just 84 points for 2nd place, 68 points for 3rd place and 0 (zero) points for 10th place. Only 10 athletes would advance and compete in the final event.
The final event featured a massive 45kg, or 99lb, dumbbell on 8 ground-to-overhead lifts to finish the sprint chipper. Unfortunately for the CrossFit French Throwdown, the dumbbell would win the battle with only three female athletes able to complete at least one rep of the dumbbell ground-to-overhead.
Manon Angonese, Anna Viggedal and Alice Mille were the only athletes to complete at least one rep of the dumbbell ground-to-overhead. They would take 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively. The rest of the women, including Caron and Norman, would all receive a tie for 4th place. That meant Caron and Norman would receive 56 points each for their effort. Viggedal, who was able to complete two reps, took 2nd place and 84 points, not enough to catch Caron.

The final event was reminiscent of the final pegboard event at the 2015 CrossFit Games where many of the women were unable to scale the pegboard one time, leaving a tie among many of the female athletes – including eventual Games champion Katrin Davidsdottir.
Even the top athletes who already qualified for the Games this year – Eik Gylfadottir, Jacqueline Dahstrom, Carrie Beamer and Emma Tall – were unable to get a single dumbbell rep. Regardless, Caron will be joining these four and many more in Madison, Wisconsin, the first week of August.
